Christmas TV a disappointment once again.. January 3, 2009

Christmas TV was dire again this year and the choice of movies was woeful. I don’t have Sky Plus or any of those channels that you can rewind when you want a cup of tea…so I’m resigned to RTE Christmas telly, and it was pretty bad again this year. Even the classic Christmas films (Willy Wonka, Wizard of Oz etc) were nowhere to be seen, and while we used to complain about repeat screenings of those, even that would be better than some of the stuff we were offered. Any available slots seem to be filled with Christmas tributes to the soaps or yet more helpings of ‘Give Up Yer Aul Sins’; I don’t care if the original was up for an Oscar..they’re not that great!Perhaps budget cutbacks account for the lack of entertainment, or the fact that all the decent movies seem to begin after midnight. Whatever the reason, here’s hoping they find a solution in time for next Christmas

Hello! I’m afraid i have to point out an error in your article. The Wizard of Oz was on Christmas Eve at 12.35 on RTE 1 – It was the Christmas Eve Matinee – so there! ha
