And the ten nominees are… June 28, 2009

I’m sure many of ye already heard, but just last week, Sid Ganis, the (deep breath) President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, announced that from now on there will be ten Best Picture nominees instead of the usual five at the Oscars ceremony. This change follows criticism of the 2009 Oscars where the Best Picture Category did not actually include some of the most well-attended movies of the past year, such as The Dark Knight or Wall E. Of course, allowing for the inclusion of these sort of films should increase the number of TV viewers on Oscar night, which was waning over the past number of years.

Question is…Will being a Best Picture nominee be less meaningful if you’re being included for the sake of popularity and viewer ratings?  Or will it be a turnaround and bring us back to the good ole era of the 1930s when up to 12 nominees was not unheard of? You can have your say by voting in the latest Stub poll…>>>

Surely the best solution is to have an unfixed amount of nominees. When it comes around to the next announcements theres going to be maybe 3-4 films that are just there to fill up the specified 10 nominees.
